Reports to:    The Principal

Job Purpose

  • To be responsible for the academic and pastoral welfare of Grades 7 - 10 students*

Key Tasks

Administration

  • Admissions
  • Budget proposals
  • Marketing materials

Curriculum

  • Managing and encouraging curriculum development
  • Monitoring student performance

Pastoral

  • Student Welfare and Discipline
  • Communication with Parents

Staff

  • Coordinate and appraise tutors and subject teachers
  • Lead meetings related to Grades 6 - 10
  • Assist in the appointment of new staff
  • Induction of new staff
  • Professional Development

Other Duties

  • Teacher (50% timetable)
  • Tutor

Specific Tasks for 2008

Whilst the key task areas have been identified above, the following is a (non-exhaustive) list of specific tasks

  • Following through the recently implemented systems to improve discipline
  • Reviewing and refining the new curriculum map with teaching staff
  • Assuring the effective delivery of the new curriculum
  • Implementation of the IB Learner Profile
  • Developing cross-curricular projects in grades 7 to 10
  • Ensuring concurrency of learning throughout the secondary school
  • Improving resources to allow more inquiry based learning
  • Training staff in trans-disciplinary, child-centred teaching and learning
  • Evaluating / implementing the MYP and/or Checkpoint & IGCSE

*  Note that at present the secondary school starts at Grade 7 but may include Grade 6 from 2009.
