Aim: to encourage students to develop a life-long understanding of effective nutrition
Objectives
To achieve this aim, students are:
- Served a balanced and healthy meal at lunchtimes
- Able to choose the amount of food they need
- Encouraged to eat the food they have chosen:
- Infants: Tutors ensure that all students eat a reasonable amount, communicate with parents if there are difficulties, restrict snacks if necessary.
- Primary: As with Infants, but with increasing leniency towards the older groups. Encouraged to ask for the appropriate amount to avoid waste.
- Secondary: Given free choice as to how much they eat. Encouraged to ask for the appropriate amount to avoid waste.
- Discouraged from eating too many snacks and sweet drinks at break times
- Given classes in nutrition via the Science and PSHE programme.
We encourage Parents to:
- Send only small amounts of food for snacks
- Send healthy snacks
- Talk to their children about their likes and dislikes
- Eat communal meals with their children each evening
- Inform tutors of any specific dietary needs
We encourage Staff to:
- Model sensible nutrition patterns
